Engaging democracy. How serious games strengthen democracy?
Moderator:
Anna Koch, Center for Systemic Solutions
Time: Day 2. (June 3., Friday). hrs: 09:30 – 10:30
Format: breakfast meeting
Description:
Stimulating citizens to participate in decision-making processes is one of the greatest challenges faced by contemporary Poland. Studies (Let’s decide together 2012) show that our society very often prefers to protest against made decisions in a variety of ways rather than to take part in civic activities in order to impact the decision making process. It is easier to demonstrate disappointment than actively impact the way changes are made. For many people participation seems unattractive. This breakfast session provides answers to questions why it is like this and how Center for Systemic Solutions (CSS) attempts to change this status quo. The session’s participants will stand a chance to get to know the simulation game called „Games of budget” that has been prepared by CSS, and – as for an energetic start of the day – will also take part in a mini breakfast game to explore its potential.
