Fighting fire with fire – consultation on troublesome investments
Moderators:
Maciej Milewicz, „Konsultujemy” (We consult)
Krzysztof Mączka, „Konsultujemy” (We consult)
Time: 2. Day (Friday, June 3.), hrs 10:45-12:15
Format: discussion session
The session is dedicated to touch on so-called “troublesome” investments such as garbage landfills, incineration plants, animal shelters, and homeless shelters. Consultation on such investments requires delicate handling. Additionally, moderating related discussions and facilitating even a partial agreement is a huge challenge. It is easy to lead to a conflict escalation among different stakeholders and make them take on the “Not-In-My-Back-Yard” approach, or even worse one: “Some-Other-Bugger’s-Back-Yard” approach.
During our session we will present a few cases of such consultation on troublesome investments such as garbage landfills, incineration plants, animal shelters, and homeless shelters. We shall point out the most difficult points that we have to face in this practice. We shall formulate some open questions regarding potential solutions to such difficulties, and later on we will discuss potential coping strategies so that there would be no need to fight fire with fire.
The session is dedicated to those interested in spatial planning, and people engaged in the realization of social consultation on investments carried out by local governments (clerks, NGO members, private companies)
