How to engage the local community effectively – social mobilization in Katowice

Moderators:

Iwona Nowak, Civic Activity Association Bona Fides
Dagmar Kubik, The Social Matter Foundation

Time: Day 1. (June 2., Thursday), hrs: 15:30 – 17:30

Format: exchange of experience with elements of a training session

Descritption:
During the session the participants will get acquainted with all the phases of the method for social mobilization which has successfully been implemented since 2011 by the Bona Fides Association in the field of work with local communities (so far – thanks to our support – in different parts of Katowice there have been 6 informal citizen groups created which, inter alia, managed completion of the parking space in the Scigaly compound, conducted social negotiating with regards to revitalization of the Bogucki Park or preventing the historic Borki estate from being pulled down).

The participants will find out how to encourage citizens to engage in grassroots movements, will stand a chance to play the role of a negotiator and think about the process of cutting the umbilical cord.

The maximum number of participants of the session should not exceed 16. The session is meant for non-governmental representatives and local leaders who are interested in matters of local communities’ involvement or act as social animators in their local communities.
