Moderators:

Aleksandra Winiarska, University Of Warsaw – Institute Of Applied Social Sciences and The Center for Dispute and Conflict Resolution at the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw

Time:  2. Day (Friday, May 29.), hrs 12:45-14:15

Location: II floor, zone H

Format: experience sharing session with elements of training

One of the participation goals is a discussion about important social issues that would combine different point of views and interests of representatives from various social groups. Interest differences often bring about a conflict. From the practitioners’ perspective it is important to know how to recognise a conflict and what steps to take in order to resolve it. Should public consultation be supported or perhaps replaced by alternative conflict solutions?

The session is intended for those (social organization and local government representatives) who have already experienced conflict situations but do not have deep expertise in conflict reconciliation. Together we shall touch on the variety of conflicts encountered by the participants, how those are recognized and coped with.

Moreover we should come up with a list of warnings that could be used in the conflict diagnosis. We shall demonstrate a tool to analyse conflicts and will encourage the attendees to work on a case study. We will also discuss the cases in which public consultation should be used and when to apply other conflict resolution techniques like mediation.
